The Gibraltar Financial Services Commission granted Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited a Distributed Ledger Technology Provider permission on October 19, 2026. The authorisation covers transmission and execution of virtual asset orders, virtual asset custody services and virtual asset staking services under Part 7 of the Financial Services Act.

The same day the company resumed full onboarding of new customers in Gibraltar for its electronic money and payments services. Revolut reports more than 80 million retail customers worldwide and over 16 million crypto users across its existing UK and EEA entities.

Revolut Gibraltar Licence Details and Authorised Activities

The permission authorises RGDAL to provide regulated DLT services from Gibraltar. These include order transmission and execution for virtual assets, custody arrangements that meet GFSC standards, and staking operations where clients can earn yields on holdings through compliant protocols. The licence does not extend to other financial services such as deposit taking or lending.

Revolut already operates crypto services through Revolut Ltd in the United Kingdom and Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd under the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation. The new Gibraltar entity broadens the range of products available within the app for users outside those jurisdictions. Specific markets and service launch dates remain to be announced by the company.

General Manager Crypto and New Bets Emil Urmanshin stated that the authorisation reflects the firm’s commitment to high regulatory standards and that Gibraltar’s framework supports global crypto operations effectively. The company plans to disclose further operational details in due course.

Gibraltar DLT Framework and Market Context

Gibraltar introduced its DLT regulatory regime through the GFSC in 2018, making it one of the earliest jurisdictions with dedicated rules for virtual asset businesses. The framework requires licensed providers to maintain robust governance, risk management and client asset protection measures. Three additional DLT permissions are expected to be issued by the GFSC in the week of October 19, 2026, according to government statements.

The government welcomed the resumption of customer onboarding and the new permission, describing the developments as reinforcement of Gibraltar’s position as a regulated hub for virtual asset firms. Officials noted sustained international interest in the territory’s licensing process. Revolut collaborated with Minister for Trade and Industry Nigel Feetham KC MP and the GFSC to align onboarding procedures with local requirements.

Revolut’s expansion through RGDAL occurs alongside ongoing regulatory developments in other regions, including MiCA implementation in the EEA and evolving rules in the United Kingdom. The Gibraltar licence adds another compliant route for custody and staking services that the company can offer to retail and institutional clients internationally.
