JPMorgan extended its USD deposit token JPM Coin to the Ethereum mainnet on October 19, 2026. The move, executed through the bank’s Kinexys platform, makes the token available to vetted institutional clients alongside its existing deployment on Base, Coinbase’s layer-2 network.

JPM Coin represents one-to-one USD deposits held at JPMorgan. On Ethereum it supports peer-to-peer transfers that settle in seconds and operate around the clock, contrasting with traditional multi-day, business-hours-only bank transfers.

JPM Coin Ethereum Mainnet Technical and Operational Details

The Ethereum deployment remains strictly permissioned. Only counterparties pre-approved by JPMorgan can hold or transfer the token through the Kinexys interface. The asset does not trade on public exchanges and carries no retail access.

Ethereum was chosen for its deep on-chain liquidity and existing tokenized asset activity. JPM Asset Management already operates tokenized money market funds on the network, allowing institutions to use JPM Coin as cash or collateral for on-chain settlements without moving funds off the chain.

Transfers execute on the Ethereum Virtual Machine and inherit the same 1:1 backing as the Base version. Settlement finality occurs in seconds rather than the T+1 or T+2 cycles typical of traditional correspondent banking. Average daily volume across the broader Kinexys platform, which includes private-chain activity, has reached approximately $7 billion, with cumulative transaction value exceeding $4 trillion.

Access controls stay under bank oversight. Counterparties must maintain approved accounts and comply with Kinexys onboarding requirements, preserving the closed-loop nature of the instrument.

Background and Planned Next Steps for Tokenized Deposits

JPM Coin first piloted on Base in June 2025 and moved to live operation there in November 2025. Early tests involved trading firm B2C2, Coinbase, and Mastercard. The October 19 mainnet release marks the second public EVM chain for the token.

Emma Landriault, head of Kinexys Labs, stated that multi-chain support gives wholesale clients flexibility in moving deposits and collateral. The bank positions the expansion as infrastructure that supports payments, settlement, and tokenized real-world asset workflows.

Further chain additions are under consideration, including the Canton Network. No plans exist to open JPM Coin to retail users or to list it on public markets. Integration work will focus on pairing the deposit token with other tokenized instruments already live on Ethereum.

Institutions can now route same-day collateral movements across both Base and Ethereum without converting to external stablecoins. This reduces operational steps and counterparty risk for settlement of tokenized securities and derivatives.
