Deutsche Bank crypto custody service prepares Germany launch within weeks
Key points
Deutsche Bank readies Bitcoin and Ether custody for institutional clients in Germany, with launch expected within weeks of mid-October 2026 under BaFin authorization.
Deutsche Bank plans to launch its digital asset custody service in Germany within weeks of mid-October 2026. The offering initially covers Bitcoin and Ether for institutional and corporate clients through the Corporate and Investment Bank division.
Deutsche Bank crypto custody service features and client scope
The service will hold client wallets and private keys, allowing transfers to third parties without clients maintaining separate infrastructure. Targeted users include corporates, asset managers, hedge funds, custodians, brokers and sovereign institutions. Retail clients remain outside the initial scope.
At launch the platform supports Bitcoin, Ether and selected stablecoins such as USDC, EURC and EURAU. The latter token is issued by AllUnity, a joint venture that includes DWS, the asset manager majority-owned by Deutsche Bank. Additional assets and services including stablecoin on and off ramps and tokenized deposits will follow in later phases.
Security measures include hardware-backed key generation, multi-person approvals, segregation of duties, separate warm and cold storage, redundant systems and controlled recovery procedures. The bank will rely on vetted external technology providers for parts of the infrastructure.
Regulatory authorization and background timeline
Deutsche Bank obtained BaFin authorization for custody and transfer services, with the entry listed in ESMA’s interim register for Germany. The offering operates under EU MiCA rules. The bank first applied for the digital asset custody license in June 2023 and has worked on the solution for several years.

Crypto assets do not fall under standard deposit guarantee schemes. The September 2026 announcement from the bank linked first client access to completion of remaining regulatory steps and technical readiness. Reports from October 2026 indicated approval could arrive shortly after the announcement date.
Launch timing depends on final regulatory clearance and internal preparations. The rollout will proceed in phases and adjust according to client demand and risk assessments. No fixed go live date has been published.
Expansion outlook and institutional context
Following the Germany start, Deutsche Bank intends to extend the service to Asian financial centers in 2027. The initiative supports the Corporate Bank target of approximately 8 percent compound annual growth through 2028. Digital assets are positioned as a complement to traditional finance services amid rising use of stablecoins and blockchain based instruments.
Similar custody offerings from other European banks have focused on institutional demand while maintaining strict regulatory compliance. Deutsche Bank’s phased approach mirrors patterns seen in prior tokenized asset and digital bond projects across the region. Institutions considering the service should review contract terms, fee structures and asset segregation rules directly with the bank.
